EPRA/Cullen International joint event in Brussels: New Podcast

posted on 16 June, 2023   (public)

Tune in to an exciting podcast featuring a discussion with Maria Donde on the impact of adtech and platformisation on public interest media

On 29 March 2023, EPRA organised a joint event with Cullen International "Media for Good and for Everyone" in Brussels.

During this event, kindly hosted by the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the European Union, experts and stakeholders from various sectors exchanged on how regulation can support strong and independent media to make sure citizens can benefit from diverse and quality content.

The debates were organised around three key challenges:  good financing (panel 1), good visibility (panel 2) and good regulatory decisions (panel 3).

Building on the rich inputs of this event*, Cullen International is now producing a series of podcasts, investigating further how regulation and the upcoming European Media Freedom Act can support public interest media.

In this first post-event podcastLaura Sboarina (Cullen International) and Maria Donde (Vice-chair of EPRA) engage in lively exchanges on:

  • the call for a normative and regulatory framework for public interest media
  • the impact of digital advertising on the financial sustainability of media
  • the role that regulators can play with regards to prominence
  • the need for rebalancing powers between media and online intermediaries

Stay tuned for the next post-event podcast!

* The podcast also includes contributions from Thomas Myhr - Director of European Affairs at Nordvision -, Elisa Giomi - Commissioner at AGCOM - and Richard Burnley, Director of Legal and Policy at EBU.
