CNMC and Autocontrol agree on joint regulation of TV advertising

The Spanish regulator CNMC announced on July 6 2015 an agreement with the industry group Autocontrol (Association for Self-Regulation of Commercial Communications) on joint regulation of advertising on TV. CNMC recognizes Autocontrol’s self-regulatory system for enforcing legal requirements and industry standards.

The agreement encourages broadcasters and advertisers to use the tool Copy Advice, managed by Autocontrol, to self-assess the compliance of ads prior to their broadcast. In addition, Autocontrol will offer its own assessments to the CNMC in consultative and administrative proceedings, including the evaluation of reports from Copy Advice, and regularly inform the regulator of its own jury rulings in the voluntary evaluation of ads.

Autocontrol also assumes the responsibility for monitoring watershed rules on the timing of content in the interest of protecting minors.
