Ofcom: Digital Radio Report 2014

On 25 September 2014 Ofcom published its annual Digital Radio Report for 2014 as part of the Digital Radio Action Plan announced by the Government in July 2010. The report covers availability, take-up, listening patterns and attitudes towards digital radio.

This year’s report shows that over a third (36.3%) of all hours of radio listened to were on a digital platform. While in previous years there has been consecutive growth in digital radio's share of total listening hours, quarterly figures between 2013 and 2014 shows stability in the growth.

Two-thirds of digital radio listening is through a DAB set, almost half of UK adults (48.5%) claim to own a DAB digital radio set.

The report shows that the BBC’s national digital audio broadcasting (DAB) multiplex covers 95% of homes, while the national commercial digital multiplex covers 90%. Local DAB multiplexes are estimated to cover 73% of households. The number of local DAB digital radio services available across the UK is 198.
