New Director General for the Norwegian Media Authority

Starting from the 1st September 2017, the Norwegian Media Authority Medietilsynet will have a new Director General - Ms. Mari Velsand. She will take over the position from Mr. Tom Thoresen, who has been heading the authority from its creation in 2005.


Mari Velsand has studied journalism at the Norwegian Journalist College (1992), Spanish at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2007) and holds a Master degree of management from the Norwegian Business School BI (2011).
Ms. Velsand has long experience in the media industry. She has been journalist in Oppland Arbeiderblad (1987-1990) and Program Director, Editorial Officer, Deputy Chief and Journalist at NRK (1992-2008), which is the Norwegian government-owned public service media and the largest media organisation in Norway. Ms. Vesland has also been CEO of Tun Media (2012-2013) and Chief Editor in the AS Nation (2008- 2013).
