The ACRA to carry out the missions of its predecessor, the NTRC

Following the approval by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, of the new law "On Media" on 8 February 2022, a presidential decree abolished the National Television and Radio council (NTRC), replacing it with the Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ACRA). As the NTRC's successor, the ACRA inherits the former's role. NTRC members in office at the time of the ACRA's creation will continue with their missions, until the new structure of the regulator and the number of staff are approved.

The law "On Media" determines the organisational, legal and economic bases of activity in the field of mass media, television and radio broadcasting; as well as common rules of acquisition, preparation, transmission, production and dissemination of mass information. It replaces the laws "On Mass Media" and "On Television and Radio Broadcasting".
