"Test every news with no excuse" is motto of event supported by North Macedonian regulator

The second Media Literacy Days (MLD) in the Republic of North Macedonia were held from 26 October to 2 November 2020. They were organized by the Media Literacy Network, supported by the Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services and, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, held online.

During the MLD 2020, all interested citizens had the opportunity to join some of the 16 activities held as part of this year’s Programme: workshops, meetings, trainings, discussions, webinars, interactive lectures, debates, open public sessions and roundtables focused on different aspects of media literacy.

The events covered a number of topics, such as:

  • media literacy in the education;
  • countering information disorder,
  • disinformation and conspiracy theories;
  • media literacy during the Covid-19 pandemic;
  • professional journalism;
  • social media usage;
  • presentation of research findings on gender issue as an important aspect of media literacy.

The events aimed at different target groups such as: students, journalists, media professionals, NGOs, teachers, Government officials as well as the general public.

Short videos, with English subtitles, were produced from the events that were opened to the general public. They can be found at: https://mediumskapismenost.mk/media-literacy-days-ml/

This was the second time that North Macedonia joined the Global Media and Information Literacy Week, during which UNESCO sent out a call that we all fight disinformation using media literacy as a powerful tool. This is why the motto of DMP 2020 was “Test Every News with No Excuse”.
