BAI announces decision to permit paid product placement on Irish Television

posted on 01 March, 2011   (public)

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) has recently announced the decision to permit paid product placement on Irish television. So far, only placement of significant value but without payment (Free Placement) was permitted in all programming in Ireland. This decision mirrors the choices made by a large majority of regulators on this matter.

The change is one of a number to be included in the BAIs revised General and Childrens Commercial Communications Codes. The revised Codes will be published in the coming weeks and will take effect from 2 May 2011. The changes have been made following consideration of submissions received following a public consultation completed last January.
