EPRA Work Programme 2021 adopted

A flexible approach reflecting EPRA's priorities and strategic objectives

Further to a consultation phase with members, the Executive Board has approved EPRA’s Annual Work Programme for 2021 at its meeting on 28 January 2021.

EPRA's Work Programme for 2021 was reshaped to respond to the current circumstances and the needs of the 54 members of the network.


Innovative and inclusive formats, priority themes and topics - in line with our strategic objectives - as well as a flexible approach welcoming collaboration and external inputs: here is EPRA’s roadmap for 2021 in a nutshell.

Priority themes and topics for the year:

- Legal & regulatory theme - Hate speech: As a major theme selected by EPRA members, the network will focus this spring on hate speech - both online and offline - and seek to address the complexity of this topical challenge.

- Cooperation with NRAs from adjacent sectors theme - Regulation of online platforms: Effective regulation of ‘new’ players such as online platforms will require stronger collaboration with regulatory authorities from other sectors and EPRA intends to highlight in the autumn why such cooperation is important and how it could look like in practice.

- Future-oriented/technology theme - Artificial intelligence: EPRA intends to develop a practical approach to AI, focusing both on the available tools to facilitate supervision and the concrete impact of AI on the regulatory mission of media regulators.


Media literacy focus: EMIL
Alongside the priority topics, EMIL, the EPRA MIL taskforce will be further developed and strengthened – with a particular focus on the development of MIL Networks as well as provide inputs for this year’s key EPRA topics. EMIL will also aim to cooperate with the ERGA Media Literacy Action Group.                                                                                                                                               

Along with the priority themes, EPRA will monitor a number of other topics of interest for regulators during the year, as listed in the work programme - depending on EPRA members’ willingness to engage and/or promising external offers for cooperation.
