Protecting Children Online and Media Pluralism are key themes, along with process-based discussions
The Executive Board adopted EPRA's Work Programme for 2025 on 31 January in Brussels. For EPRA, being relevant to our wide and diverse membership is the most important. The endorsement took place after two rounds of consultation with our members. The Board has also reached out to various external partners from industry, academia, institutions and NGOs for their input.
For 2025, EPRA’s four prioritised topics are protecting children online, media pluralism, evidence-based regulators, and setting strategies in a fast-moving environment. When covering these themes, the Board and Secretariat will do their best to ensure that EPRA explores innovative working formats to facilitate interaction between members and exchange of knowledge and best practices.
EPRA's themes for 2025:
-
Protecting Children Online (plenary session in Spring): EPRA members will have the opportunity to explore tools and approaches to protect children on video-sharing platforms and social media while discussing how to balance safety of children with a children's rights-based approach.
-
What Makes an Evidence-Based Regulator? (Plenary session in Spring): A practice-oriented session aimed at identifying best practices in gathering an evidence base as well as key existing resources to tap into. Members will also be discussing what constitutes evidence for the purposes of regulation and the core building blocks of evidence-based policy development.
-
Defining, Promoting and Safeguarding Media Pluralism in the Digital Age (Plenary session in Autumn): Designed as a high-level discussion between EPRA members on how to define and assess media pluralism in the digital ecosystem while exploring approaches to ensuring the independence of public media service media. Discussions will also touch upon the issues of media freedom & editorial responsibility and the challenges to internal pluralism.
-
How to Set Strategies and Implement Them in a Fast-Moving Environment? (Plenary session in the Autumn): A practice-oriented session aimed at identifying best practices on elaborating strategies, identifying key pillars of strategy setting, discussing risk-based approaches, the involvement of stakeholders in setting up a strategy and the right balance of independence/cooperation with government and parliament..
The working groups:
-
The taskforce on Media and Information Literacy "EMIL" - which gathers may EPRA members, as well as external organisations active in the field of MIL and media literacy networks - will continue holding its regular meetings
-
The "AI & Regulators Roundtable" meetings - which were turned into an e-mail group in 2024 to support the preparation of the two plenary sessions on artificial intelligence - will resume their work and facilitate the exchange of informal updates on the use of AI-based tools by media NRAs.
We look forward to exploring these key topics with you in 2025!
