Gender Equality: REFRAM launches an internal call for project and publishes a handbook

posted on 18 October, 2012   (public)

The Francophone Network Media Regulators (REFRAM) has launched a call for tender among its members for a pilot project in favour of gender equality. This call seeks to identify and fund projects that encourage and support the promotion of gender equality in the broadcast media and in the action of regulators.

Along with this call for proposals, the Network published a handbook on the means of action for an integrated approach of gender equality in the policy conducted by regulators. The handbook aims at providing food for thought for REFRAM members and other interested stakeholders (regulatory authorities, media, associations, academics).

The call for project and the handbook, both supported by the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), are in line with the Declaration on gender equality in the audiovisual media adopted by the Presidents of the REFRAM member authorities in September 2011.

Established in 2007, the REFRAM comprises 28 media regulatory authorities from 27 French-speaking African and European countries as well as Canada. It aims at establishing and strengthening solidarity and exchanges between its members. It is a forum for debate and exchange of information on issues of common interest and fosters training and cooperation between its members. Its purpose is to work towards the consolidation of the rule of law, democracy and human rights. The CSA of the French Community of Belgium holds the chairmanship for 2012-2013. The Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) has been granted observer's status.
