Polish regulator decides to establish Digital Library of Public Media

On 18 November 2013, the National Broadcasting Council of Poland (Krajowa Rada Radiofonii i Telewizji) and 19 public media companies signed a letter of intent establishing the Digital Library of Public Media. The aim of the Library is to progressively archive and share digitalised audiovisual programmes produced by Polish public service broadcasters.

The Digital Library will give the public a quick and easy access to the public audiovisual content, which is an important part of Polish cultural heritage. Furthermore, The Digital Library will enable the combining of data stored for the time being in the different public archives and will provide a unified system of searching within the public audivisual programmes.

The Digital Library of Public Media is the Polish answer to the European Commission’s Recommendation on the Digitisation and Online Accessibility of Cultural Material and Digital Preservation. Telewizja Polska (Polish public television) will be responsible for the overall coordination of this project.
