Reports published by Ofcom on transparency of political advertising and false information online

Ofcom has recently published two research reports connected to online regulation:

  • The first, ‘Insights for online regulation: A case study monitoring political advertising’ discusses the lessons learned from monitoring transparency of online political advertising on Facebook and Google under the EU Code of Practice on Disinformation. This report builds on the findings Ofcom contributed to the ERGA monitoring work in 2019/20, covering the 2019 UK General Election.

  • The second, ‘Understanding online false information in the UK’  contributes to the growing body of research on how to assess the availability and potential impact of false information online. It explores data sources and research techniques that can be used to investigate false information and present insights from this analysis.
