New President for the Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Moldova
Former Vice-President Aneta Gonța was elected as the new Chair of the Moldovan authority on 3 August 2026
The announcement follows former Chair Liliana Vițu’s departure, after she was named Director of the Centre for Strategic Communication and Countering Disinformation by President Maia Sandu. The decision was adopted by the Audiovisual Council at a public meeting on 3 August, after Liliana Vițu submitted her resignation on her own initiative.
Aneta Gonța holds a PhD in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Journalism and Communication Sciences. She is a university lecturer, media researcher, media literacy trainer, and journalist. She has collaborated with the Independent Journalism Center, the Association of Independent Press, the Soros Foundation-Moldova’s Media Program, Agora Francophone, and Deutsche Welle Akademie.
Since 2022, Aneta Gonța has been a member of the Steering Committee on Media and Information Society (CDMSI) of the Council of Europe. From December 2022 to December 2025, she also served as a member of the CDMSI Bureau. In March 2026, she was elected chair of the Committee of Experts on the Protection of Media Pluralism in the Digital Era (MSI-ePLU), within the same international body.
