From 20 to 21 September 2012, the Central European Regulatory Forum (CERF) held its 4th meeting in Bratislava, hosted by the Council for Broadcasting and Retransmission of the Slovak Republic.

More than 30 representatives from regulatory authorities in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Croatia, Cyprus and France gathered to exchange experiences and to discuss questions related to regulation of advertising, protection of minors, impartiality, promotion of European works and accessibility.

Discussions revealed that differences exist among the countries regarding regulation of product placement, strictness of rules designed to protect minors (Poland and Hungary use double-tier watershed system with additional watershed for audience under 16), and proportions of European and independent works in TV and radio programmes. With regard to the accessibility issue, some participants stressed the need to elaborate further on the specific tools ensuring access for visually and hearing impaired people.

Closing the meeting, prof. Miloš Mistrík, Chairman of the Council for Broadcasting and Retransmission of the Slovak Republic, highlighted the importance of the educational aspect of the role of media regulatory authorities.

The Central European Regulatory Forum, created in 2009, aims at enhancing the cooperation among the regulatory authorities of Central Europe.
