EMR updates Synopsis of Audiovisual Media Services Directive

As previously reported, on 28 November 2018, the consolidated text of the revised Directive (EU) 2018/1808 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 November 2018 amending Directive 2010/13/EU on the coordination of certain provisions laid down by law, regulation or administrative action in Member States concerning the provision of audiovisual media services was published in the EU Official Journal. The text will come into force on 19 December and must be transposed into national law in the EU member States within 21 months (by 19 September 2020).

It is against such a background that the Institute for European Media Law (EMR) has developed two useful, freely accessible tools to keep up-to-date with the latest changes of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive: 

• A synopsis, which compares the text of the the European Commission Proposal of 25 May 2016, the amendments of the CULT Committee of the European Parliament and,  the General Approach adopted by the Council of the EU on 24 May 2017 with the final version published in the Official Journal on 28 November 2018.
