First Intercontinental Summit between the African and the Ibero-American Audiovisual Regulators

On 16-17 March 2017 in Fez, Morocco, was held the First High-Ievel Intercontinental Summit between the African Communication Regulatory Authorities Network (ACRAN) and the Ibero American Platform of Audiovisual Regulators (PRAI) hosted by the Moroccan HACA (Haute autorité de la communication audiovisuelle).

The work of this First Summit of Audiovisual Media Regulators, which was attended by 60 members representing 14 African countries (ACRAN), and 8 for the Ibero-American zone (PRAI), was concluded with the adoption of the Declaration of Fez.

In this declaration, African and Ibero-American regulators express a commitment to promote best practices and approaches in the field of audiovisual communication regulation.

Participants listed the most common challenges related to the reinforcement of the legal and institutional framework of regulation. These include the digital transition, media regulation during the electoral periods, the promotion of gender equality in the media, the protection of the young audience and media literacy.
