Irish regulator unveils Community Broadcasting Support Scheme 2017

On 19 January 2017, the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) has announced details of its Community Broadcasting Support Scheme 2017.

The Scheme, which has a total available fund of €25,000, is open to all Community and Community of Interest radio and TV broadcasters in Ireland. It is designed to offer funding support to enable broadcasters to undertake reviews that will advance the organisational development of their stations.

Organisational development initiatives which can be funded through the scheme include:

  • evaluations of staff and volunteer needs,
  • reviews of station policies and procedures to ensure that they are effective and appropriate, and
  • reviews of the relationship between broadcasters and the communities they serve.

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is on Monday 27 February 2017.

The Scheme is in line with the BAI's strategic objectives for the period 2017 to 2019 which include a focus on the sustainability of the broadcasting sector.
