From 5 to 7 October, the CSA of the French speaking Community of Belgium hosted the 34th EPRA meeting.
During two days, over 150 representatives of 53 regulatory authorities from 46 countries and territories as well as invited experts took the pulse of audiovisual media regulation. The regulation of new media, with a particular focus on video-on-demand services, the protection of minors and the cooperation between broadcasting regulators in Europe were recurring motives in the discussion.

The first session looked at the challenges raised by on-demand media services in the field of jurisdiction, and opened with a keynote address by Dr Rachael Craufurd-Smith, from the University of Edinburgh School of Law. The keynote was followed by a panel discussion with EPRA members and by an interactive session based on hypothetical cases.

A panel discussion during the second session on the effective functioning of regulators highlighted the variety of approaches concerning programme monitoring and looked at best practices and current challenges. Bernard Fruga (AGB Nielsen) provided insight on issues of methodology and technology.

Parallel working groups convened to discuss latest developments with regard to Product Placement and the relationship between regulation and the economic viability of Digital Terrestrial Television platforms.

A roundtable debate on the protection of minors on new media gathered key industry players including Luc Delany (Facebook), Adam Kinsley (BSkyB) et Lisa di Feliciantonio (Fastweb).
